What are Fittings and Alterations?
Fittings appointments are the individual appointments that you have with a seamstress to ensure that your bridal gown is fitted correctly and beautifully to your own unique silhouette. Alterations are the actual changes made to your bridal gown for example having your dress lifted on the shoulders, fitted around the bust, taken in at the seams or shortened on the hem.
Are Fittings and Alterations always required?
No, Fittings and Alterations are not always required, although it is very common that they are needed in some way, even if it is just a fairly minor tweak. The reason for this is that everyone’s body shape is different so even though a new bridal gown is made to the correct standard size for you, it will likely need to be altered to fit your exact body shape and the correct height of your shoes.
When are Fittings and Alterations carried out on my dress?
We usually aim to carry out Fittings and Alterations in the period around 6-12 weeks before your wedding and you are likely to need 2 or 3 separate fitting appointments during that time, each lasting on average 30-60 minutes.
How much do Fittings and Alterations generally cost?
Fittings and Alterations are an added value service. They are not included in the price of a bridal gown or any other goods and the cost can vary dependant on the style of dress and the amount of alterations required to be carried out.
Usually, at your first fitting appointment, the bridal seamstress will discuss with you any alterations that are needed to ensure your dress is correctly and beautifully fitted to your own unique silhouette. They will also discuss with you any additional options you wish to consider having added to your bridal gown such as bust cups, a dress bustle to hold your train up or a dance loop so you can party the night away!
They will then provide a quote for carrying out those alterations and you can decide if you wish to proceed, based on the information and costs they have provided.
